Bellydance is an ancient art form that was originally started by women to assist in child birthing but it was also used to dance for such events as religious celebrations, weddings, birthdays, and such.
There are many styles of bellydance from several parts of the world, including: Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, India, Morocco, Northern Africa, Central Asian and other parts of the Middle East.
Mainly practiced as a low impact workout, this style of dance utilizes controlled muscle isolations as a way to move the body gracefully. Bellydance tones and strengthens muscles and promotes self confidence and a positive body image.
Bellydance can be learned by people of all shapes, sizes and ages. Though originally created by women, bellydance can and has been beautifully performed by men.
